What Is Autism?

Autism is a complex developmental disability that affects an individual in the areas of social interaction and communication. Autism is spectrum disorder that affects each individual differently and to varying degrees of severity. Autism affects 1 in 150 children born today.

Autism Speaks is dedicated to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. This organization raises funding for global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and a cure for autism.

Jowonio is a not-for-profit school serving young children with a wide range of abilities both in school and home-based programs. The name Jowonio is from the Onondaga Indian language, which means "to set free." The school is located in Syracuse, NY.
